Kidchella is one of the Gold Coast’s easiest free days out with kids, especially when the car stays at the apartment. The Crest is 300 metres from Main Beach G:link station, and the organiser’s travel advice is to ride the tram to Cavill Avenue. At the other end, the Surfers Paradise Sign becomes a free beachside festival from 10am to 4pm on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 September 2026.
That leaves a simple plan: breakfast in Main Beach, tram south, let the children choose the programme, then return for a swim.
How to get to Kidchella by G:link tram
The apartments at The Crest are fully self-contained, with a full-size refrigerator, oven, gas cooktop and dishwasher. Breakfast can happen before anyone has shoes on. If the family would rather head out, Tedder Avenue’s cafés are about a two-minute walk away.
From there, Main Beach station is close enough for a pram and small children. The G:link takes the parking question out of the day and delivers passengers to Cavill Avenue, the stop recommended by the event organiser. Kidchella is held at the Surfers Paradise Sign, 2 Esplanade, near the beachfront.
Driving remains an option, but the official listing warns that parking may be limited. The Crest includes one complimentary secure basement space per apartment, so leaving the car there is likely to be the easier call.
10am to 4pm: make your own circuit
Kidchella has no entry price and no single headline activity that every family has to queue for first. Its value is the mix.
- Move with live DJ sets, a silent disco, street-style hoops and beach rugby.
- Make something in the Art Studio, then add colour at the Glam Bar.
- Try the skate zone before taking a slower turn on the Ferris wheel.
The programme runs for six hours on both days, but a good family visit does not have to. Pick two or three priorities, leave room for food and a sit-down, and return on Sunday if Saturday ends before everyone has had their Ferris wheel ride. After 4pm: Main Beach pace
The tram ride north creates a clean break between the festival and the evening. Back at The Crest, there are two heated pools, one indoors and one outdoors. The outdoor pool is kept at 28°C year-round, useful in September when the children still want another swim and the breeze has started to cool.
There is also a spa, sauna, full-sized tennis court and covered BBQ area. None needs a booking or another trip in the car. A separate laundry in every apartment handles wet swimmers and sandy clothes, while the kitchen turns dinner into a quiet end to the day.
Main Beach itself is 350 metres from The Crest. Families who have had enough programmed activity can use Sunday morning for the patrolled sand, then decide whether a second Kidchella visit has earned a place after lunch.
Kidchella 2026 dates and visitor details
Kidchella is free and runs 10am to 4pm on 12 and 13 September. The venue is outdoors at the Surfers Paradise beachfront, so hats, sunscreen and water belong in the bag. Active travel and public transport are encouraged. Follow the organiser’s Kidchella 2026 Facebook event for last-minute information, particularly if weather affects the programme.
At The Crest, check-in is 2 to 5pm. Late arrival can be arranged through reception using the after-hours key safe and SMS code, which helps if Saturday’s festival is the first stop after the drive to the coast.
