The ASICS Gold Coast Marathon returns on 3 and 4 July 2027, dates already locked in by organisers. It has a reputation the numbers back up year after year: the event calls itself the fastest road marathon in the country, its flat coastal course credited with a personal best for a large share of the field. If you are running it solo, or as a couple, the useful question is a small one. How far is the bed from the start line? From The Crest in Main Beach, it is close enough to walk.
Walk to the start on race morning
The start at Broadwater Parklands is 2.6 km from the door, on foot over the bridge across the river. That is a warm, unhurried twenty-five-minute walk in the dark, or a short shake-out jog if you would rather arrive loose. No car, no pre-dawn scramble for a park inside a closed-road cordon, no surge-priced taxi. If you would rather ride, Main Beach tram station is 300 m away and the same G:link line stops at Broadwater Parklands, right at the start precinct, one short trip with no changes. The tram runs to a special race-morning timetable that weekend; the times go up on ridetheg.com.au, worth a look the night before.
What the two days hold
Saturday 3 July has traditionally carried the Half Marathon, the 10 km, the shorter distances and the wheelchair events, alongside the compulsory Broadwater Parklands expo where race packs are collected, so Saturday tends to earn its place in the plan whether or not you are racing that day. Sunday 4 July would be the main event: the Marathon (42.195 km) and the Wheelchair Marathon, historically off around 6:15 am from Broadwater Parklands on Marine Parade, Southport, finishing back at the same precinct. The route has long run out and back along the coast, south over the bridge into Main Beach, down through Surfers Paradise and Broadbeach and home. Full program, pace charts and the 2027 course map go up at goldcoastmarathon.com.au as the event approaches.
A base built for one runner, or two
The one-bedroom apartment is the quiet luxury here for a solo runner. It has a full-size bathtub, the right tool for a pair of legs at the end of a 42-kilometre morning, and a full kitchen for the dinner cooked to your own timing and the before-dawn breakfast no cafe is open for. Every apartment is air-conditioned and has its own laundry, so the race kit is clean and dry by the time you fly home.
The building does its best work in the cool July mornings. The Crest keeps two heated pools, one outdoor at 28°C and one indoors, and the indoor pool is the one that matters in winter: a warm cool-down swim on the Monday when the legs will not run but still want to move. The sauna takes the ache out of the calves the same afternoon. A two-bedroom apartment has two full bathrooms, so a running couple never queues for the hot water.
When the running is done
Main Beach is a gentle place to be sore. Tedder Avenue and its cafes are a two-minute walk for a slow recovery lunch, and the sand itself is 350 m away for a barefoot walk that does more for tired legs than another nap. If family have come along to watch, the foreshore parklands give them somewhere easy to set up, see the field pass, and still make the finish in Southport by tram.
Book for marathon weekend
3 and 4 July 2027, confirmed. Check-in from 2 pm, check-out by 10 am, and late arrivals are covered after hours by a key safe and an SMS code if a Saturday-night flight lands you here late. Rooms near the course go early, so book the moment your entry is confirmed.
Check availability and reserve your apartment, or look at the one-bedroom (the natural pick for a solo runner or a couple) and the two-bedroom apartments (space for a support crew and a second bathroom that earns its keep on a 4 am alarm).
The entry form, the pricing tiers and the course map, once published, are all on the official ASICS Gold Coast Marathon site. Enter first, then book the room.
